2015: Solo Trip to Iceland

I am currently planning a solo trip to Iceland for July 2015. Here is my itinerary thus far:

Cities & villages:

  • Reykjavik: The capitol of Iceland (southwestern Iceland).

Waterful, green rolling landscape, and grazing sheep.

  • Iceland Air – national airline
  • Samferda– rideshare program popular at hostels
  • Strætó – bus route serving Iceland, and apparently the most economical way to travel around Iceland as a solo traveler.

For My Next Visit To Iceland:

  • Fjadrargljufur: Mossy canyon (southeastern Iceland).
  • Mývatn: Volcanic lake with lots of birds to photograph (northern Iceland).
  • West Fjords: More epic landscape (northwestern Iceland).
  • Snæfellsnes: It has all the national attractions in one place (western Iceland).
  • Eastfjords: Beautiful and quiet landscape (eastern Iceland).

  • Álfaskólinn: Certification course on Icelandic folklore for tourists.
  • Brugghusbarinn: Icelandic brewery/cafe in Akureyri.
  • Græni Hatturinn (aka: The Green Hat): music venue in Akureyri.
  • Gotubarinn: Piano bar in with an “old Akureyri feel”.
  • Höfn Glacier Museum
  • Skálholt Summer Concerts: free contemporary and early music festival in Skálholt.
  • Glacier Walk
  • Turf house
  • Community swimming pool (more affordable option to the Blue Lagoon – and I hear they’re much better!)
