Our goals for the day were to do grocery shopping at the Rialto Market, try to get rush tickets to La Fenice, visit T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, El Grande Canal, and Campo San Barnaba where a scene from Matt’s favourite Indiana Jones movie was filmed. However, we spent most of the day lost and trying to dodge the crowds, which didn’t quite work out for us…
Journey to Venice
Our trip took off with a red eye flight to London, an 8 hour layover in Gatwick, then a 2 hour flight to Venice, arriving at our final destination at nightfall. We booked a ‘daylet’ in Gatwick to get some napping in and a shower during our layover.
The Black Beret’s Babymoon
The Black Beret and the Grey Cap are going on a new adventure – to parenthood! Before the little Baby Bonnet arrives, we are going on a ‘babymoon’ to Venice and London at the end of March.
Last Hours in Scotland
The final hours of our trip to Scotland were uneventful. Our aim for the day was to visit the filming locations for the TV show Shetland and check out a new restaurant. However, neither turned out quite as planned…
Edinburgh
We drove from Loch Ness to Edinburgh, driving through Cairngorms National Park with a stop in Carrbridge along the way. We stayed overnight in Edinburgh, soaking in the sights and sounds of this
Loch Ness
As a child, I was fascinated by the Loch Ness monster. Today I made a lifelong dream come true. We drove from Skye to Plockton, then along the Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit. I didn’t see the fabled monster, but we enjoyed the Highlands and the Uruquart castles and stayed overnight on a boat on the famous loch.
A Full Day on the Isle of Skye
We had a full day of sight-seeing planned for Isle of Skye. We visited the Fairy Pools, the Cuillin, Dunvegan Castle, the famous Talisker Distillery for a scotch tour, and the Neist Point Lighthouse for the quintessential Isle of Skye shot. In the evening, we enjoyed Irish music at the Pier Hotel, singing along with the locals!
Arrival on the Isle of Skye
We drove from Glencoe to the Isle of Skye where we settled down for the night in Portree. We got to know the town a bit and stumbled upon amazing band playing at the local pub.
Glencoe
We began our road trip through the Scottish Highlands with a drive from Glasgow to Glen Coe. Our plan for the day was to visit Castle Stalker, the Three Sisters mountains, and stay overnight in a pub built in the 16th century – the Clachaig Inn!
Glasgow
We took a red eye flight from Halifax to Glasgow, landing in Scotland at 9:00 in the morning. We had the whole day to ourselves to explore the city on foot and by bus, staying in the West End of the city.
